Tetris Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Each time a major awards ceremony nears, one notices a clamor to include fresh award types to recognize underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case supporting my request remains most pressing and important of all. This is the request: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. However, it represents a necessary evil within the realm of gaming, which are so diverse they barely qualify one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Think about these recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. What category would fit them within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games released every year without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release was excluded that year
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment recently
  • Only a few puzzle games managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as the most-played games worldwide and have been for many years.

The famous puzzle experience competes with famous sandbox experiences for the title of highest-selling title ever; it also contends as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, and engaging across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. You could fill five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
