Sam Fender has handed over the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize winnings to the trust for venues, which works to protect the UK's small live music spots.

The star was given the prize on mid-October as his new release his work was declared the best record of the last 12 months.

The musician has decided to give the cash to the trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function grassroots venues had in his early career.

"I personally would not have achieved this success if it weren't for all the performances I performed around the region, and further afield, when I was beginning," said the artist. "These venues are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – approximately one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, major artists like Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to help venues survive, by including a small levy to their ticket costs, which goes to help local stages.

Sam Fender also joined in, collecting over £100k on his recent tour to support thirty-eight small stages across Britain.

The donation assisted locations that were confronting imminent closure due to challenges arising from water damage, fires and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and sound issues.

Additional spaces obtained monetary aid in upgrading infrastructure and gear that directly benefitted performers and fans.

"The concept that money from shows in major spaces backs the independent spots, where it begins for artists like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has commented.

The musician is far from the only musician to donate his honor funds to worthy causes.

When they earned the prize in the year 1996 for their release their work, frontman the singer announced that the group would donate their prize money to the charity the charity.

During 2002, musician Ms Dynamite split her award between several organizations, such as the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I donated a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked new equipment," the artist shared with outlets.

Previously, they gave their funds to the youth organization that nurtured their group, alongside other local music groups.

Additionally 1994 winners the group contributed their award to a MS organization after a acquaintance was found to have the condition.

"The victory was sufficient," said artist Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the cake. So our success touched another person's life."

Recently, the trust announced it had protected several local spots in that region, by placing them under community ownership.

One venue in the city and The Croft in that location were acquired under the public acquisition initiative, which is supported by Arts Council England and music fans who buy "ownership units" in the properties.
