Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police say they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.
City officials announced they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative stated the attack rendered him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of migrant background in 2020.
